The role of Trade Waste Officer involves visiting all kinds of industrial sites (food manufacturers, electroplaters, breweries) and inspecting where they use water. This role also inspects what is put down drains and decides whether or not they need special treatment devices to clean the waste. If there are issues (blockages) in the sewer, the role helps trace them to the business that is causing the problem. We then work with them to improve. This is not always an easy task when it comes to hundreds of thousands of dollars! The main aim of this role is to protect our infrastructure, our workers, the community and the environment.
