The first-ever WTREX event in Australia is set to be hosted in Queensland, bringing this international training opportunity to our region. The event is jointly delivered by the Queensland Fire Department and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, with support from AFAC.
AUS WTREX is an intensive 12-day training program designed to enhance participants’ firefighting skills while highlighting the crucial role of Indigenous women in fire management. This unique event provides a hands-on learning experience, offering participants the chance to build expertise in fire operations while gaining cultural insights from Indigenous fire managers.
This program is more than just a training course—it’s a chance to be part of a global network of fire practitioners who are driving change in fire management. AUS WTREX provides:
• Practical, hands-on fire training in diverse environments
• Knowledge-sharing with international experts and Indigenous leaders
• A supportive and empowering space for women in fire management
Women-in-Fire Prescribed Fire Training Exchanges (WTREX) are internationally recognized programs supported by the U.S.-based Fire Networks. These programs aim to explore the growing role of women in fire management while providing high-quality, hands-on training experiences for practitioners.
