About me

  • International Experience

I had a set journey right from the beginning where I knew I had to choose between two career paths – medicine or engineering. I got inspired to enrol in electrical engineering and specialise in power generation.  This led to the opportunity to work for a large-scale power generation, transmission and distribution company in Pakistan. I started my early career as a technical sales engineer at Siemens, in Pakistan, learning about all things gas and steam. While it was fun working there, I decided to challenge myself and move overseas to have the opportunity to further my studies.  I chose Australia and I enrolled in a Masters and doctorate degree in renewable energy. I worked briefly as a data centre engineering operations technician at Amazon Web services while working to gain practical hands-on experience where I learnt about all things data. Soon after finishing my studies, I joined Iberdrola Australia to work as a renewable energy graduate engineer. I work mainly in operations and maintenance of renewable energy systems such as wind and solar and focus heavily on compliance and safety while doing a mix of remote and site work with a more boots on the ground kind of approach.

Renewable engineers are responsible for developing renewable energy projects.  They assist by identifying a development opportunity through to design, grid connection and operations and maintenance. The role is a mix of problem solving, technical project work and collaboration, to ensure renewable energy sites and systems are working optimally.

Graduate engineers are exposed to diverse business areas to get a high-level view of the workings of a renewable energy company.  This variety assists to develop a diverse set of skills essential to progress within the renewable energy sector. Site visits are an enjoyable part of the job, as I get to assess and understand the equipment with collaboration from key team members at the project site.
