About me

  • Regional Background

I grew up in NSW riding horses and playing hockey. I moved to QLD when I was in grade 6 and started going to work with my dad during the school holidays.

I studied woodwork & engineering at school as electives. In grade 12 I was offered a position at Gold Coast School of Construction to complete a introduction to construction course. At the end of the program I was offered a full time Carpentry apprenticeship with Hutchinson Builders.

I graduated year 12 and commenced full time with my apprenticeship which saw me travel to Brisbane, Gold Coast even out west as far as Mount Isa and across to Port Headland WA.

As a result of a workplace accident, I was tasked to assist the HSE Manager, whilst completing my apprenticeship. Assisting the HSE Manager ignited my interest in Workplace, Heath Safety and Environment and has led me to my current position.

I am now a Team HSE Manager for one of Hutchies teams and manage HSE for projects across Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

Carpentry carries a broad scope of works. Most commonly working with timber and/or steel on new residential construction, renovations projects or commercial development. Daily tasks include reading plans and specifications, setting out the building, erecting wall and floor framing and installing fixtures and fittings.

A Health, Safety and Environment Manager works with the different projects to ensure the risks to health and safety are identified and addressed. The background in carpentry allows for a broader understanding of the work environment.

The HSE Manager works with various people including Site Managers and subcontractors to identify and develop different solutions for each different project. Projects will vary from 15 Level commercial tower to a 54 level Highrise building. Team projects are spread from Brisbane to the Gold Coast including Sydney and Melbourne.

The role also encompasses completing site inspections & Audits, participating in Site Safety Committee meetings and conducting incident investigations, as well as communication and reporting with the team leader and project clients.
