In high school, I planned to study law but didn’t get the grades, so I started an Economics degree—and absolutely hated it! Luckily, I had randomly selected two electives in history and politics, loved them, and switched to an arts degree. After a few internships overseas and at home in Adelaide, I graduated with a Social Science degree, majoring in Politics and International Relations.

I worked for two years in local government, focusing on youth and community development, but found I wasn’t quite satisfied. My boyfriend at the time (now husband!) got an opportunity to move interstate for work, and together with our dog, Winston, we made the move to Melbourne. Encouraged by my dad, who had a long career in oil and gas, I refreshed my resume and marketed myself for a community relations role in construction, which eventually led to a role in the energy industry.

I work closely with project teams to translate complex information about large-scale energy projects into clear, accessible material. My role engages directly with community members—including those opposed to projects—listening to concerns and advocating for changes that help reduce impacts. I collaborate with Traditional Owner groups, local government, and a wide range of internal teams—including engineering, scheduling, land access, approvals, and on-site construction—to ensure respectful engagement, consistent and clear communication, and a well-coordinated approach.

My role also supports public relations by engaging with local media, hosting community information sessions and market stalls, and planning the timing and methods of engagement throughout the project lifecycle to align with community needs. I help manage relationships with opposition groups in a respectful and constructive manner. Additionally, I contribute to writing federal grant applications that highlight the social and community value of the projects, supporting efforts to secure funding. Above all, my role ensures that community engagement is genuine and that people have a platform to express their concerns throughout the development and construction of major energy infrastructure projects.
