About me

  • Regional Background

I did my Bachelor of Science at The University of Melbourne and majored in Immunology. While doing my degree, I realised that I really hated lab work and did not want to go further with my studies! I was happy when uni was over but I was very aware that my degree was in a field I had no interest working in. Luckily, I heard Powercor had opened positions in their IT graduate program. I was told my lack of experience did not matter and that IT was a very broad field that encompassed many roles. The graduate program involved moving between teams every 6 months before finally settling in a permanent position after 3 years. I did 1.5 years before being offered my first permanent position in the drone team!

About my role

  • Analytical
  • Observant
  • Perfectionist
  • Principled
  • Rational

Business analysts improve company performance by identifying issues with current business activities and/or systems and driving solutions to these problems. They collect relevant data and use tools to determine the impact and criticality of the problem. This allows their team to judge whether they should address the problem and when. They then work with stakeholders (the people who are affected by changes in process) to create solutions and business requirements (what is expected of the solutions). When these solutions are being planned and built, business analysts facilitate communication between their team and stakeholders, write project documentation, and assist with project management. Their role is very diverse and allows them to work across multiple industries.
