Lindsay Australia driving gender equality from paddock to plate

All signs point to gender equality in the Transport/Logistics sector, with UNIQ You’s newest partner Lindsay Australia coming onboard to increase the visibility of their women working across the supply chain to support sustainable food practices.

All signs point to gender equality in the Transport/Logistics sector, with UNIQ You’s newest partner Lindsay Australia coming onboard to increase the visibility of their women working across the supply chain to support sustainable food practices.

According to 2020/21 data from the Workplace Gender Equality Agency, the Transport, Postal and Warehousing industry comprises just 24 per cent women, representing a decrease from 2019/2020 from 27 per cent. Lindsay Australia has partnered with UNIQ You to contribute to reversing the trend.

Melissa Strong, Lindsay Australia’s Safety, People and Culture Manager, says we cannot leave gender equality to chance:

“I have been fortunate to spend my career in the transport industry, from entry-level to industry leader and advocate. My opportunities came by chance, but a more intentional approach is required to significantly increase girls’ exposure to everything the Lindsay Australia network has to offer. I grew up in regional NSW, so I’m particularly looking forward to reaching a demographic of talent that faces additional access barriers, and resonating more broadly with girls not typically available through traditional recruiting processes.”

Lindsay Australia is proud to service regional communities, and UNIQ You’s CEO Tanya Meessmann thinks Lindsay’s focus on Australia’s farmers will shine a light on regionally available opportunities:

“‘Having grown up in regional Queensland myself, I am acutely aware of how important it is to connect girls with strong, positive women who they can look up to as role models, who represent exciting and fulfilling career pathways they didn’t know existed. We are thrilled to be connecting Lindsay Australia’s inspirational advisors with future talent across Queensland.”

To date there are 22 schools from metro and regional Queensland engaged with UNIQ You, providing access to industry women based across Australia. UNIQ You focuses on the 10 industries identified to comprise less than 40 per cent women, making Transport/Logistics a priority sector.
