About me

  • International Experience
  • Regional Background

I wanted to be a teacher until grade 11, where I was exposed to some accounting and business subjects that I really enjoyed. I selected a commerce degree as I needed a higher year 12 result to study it. I didn’t really know what being an accountant would be like. I finished my university degree part-time while working in an accounting firm in Townsville who subsequently supported me to relocate to Brisbane. I have lived and worked on an island in central Queensland followed by five years in London, UK. Coming back to Queensland, I worked for an organisation that enabled me to travel to some very remote and regional places. I now work for a boutique consultancy in Brisbane.

Consultants are engaged by government and the private sector. The work undertaken by them differs depending on their service offerings. Consultants who work in commercial, infrastructure and strategy roles get involved in a variety of different and exciting work referred to as projects. Some projects involve analysing financial and business performance to identify problems, such as money running out, and find solutions to address them. Other projects involve working with architects, engineers and other specialists to develop business cases for buying/constructing new assets. Business cases consider various things such as how much to buy or build the asset, how long it will take, how much it will cost to run and what income is earned from owning the asset and what are the risks with the project.
