What does a career in the police force actually look like?

.

Imagine a career with endless possibilities to explore. Where no day is the same but every day, you can make a real difference.

That’s what you can expect from a career in the Queensland Police Service (QPS). Our job is like no other, it’s challenging and rewarding across every corner of our state – from the northern tropics and beautiful beaches, to small country towns and diverse cities.

Policing can be in one hundred careers in one, from General Duties to detectives, to specialist areas like forensics, Highway Patrol or Water Police. Your interests and passion drives your journey in the QPS.

We’re recruiting now, and we’re looking for applicants who want to make a difference in their communities. If you are 17 or older, you can start the application process now.

Our UNIQ You advisors are available to answer your questions on policing and what a role with the QPS is like. We’re excited to introduce you to Senior Constable Latisha Whalan who works in Police Headquarters in Brisbane, after starting her career in first response policing on the Gold Coast.

“I am a First Nations mother, partner, sister, aunty, police officer and friend. I can rarely walk past an opportunity to make a difference and I would describe myself as someone who is passionate about creating positive change for our younger generations.

“I am particularly passionate about creating subtle positive change within my organisation as I believe everything starts from within. If I could tell my 15-year-old self anything, I would tell her “the day you plant the seed is not the day you eat the fruit.”  You may not be eating the fruits straight away, however one day you will.

“Keep going! “ Be who you want to be in this world, not what you think the world wants you to be.”

“I would say the following attributes are important to be an operational police officer are someone who has good communication skills, analysis and problem-solving abilities, a sense of responsibility, ability to diffuse situations, compassion, caring, time management, and a willingness to help.”
