Your Future Digital Talent Might Already be in the Pipeline – Host a Digital Trainee, Cadet or Graduate

Worried about skills gaps in your team? Need digitally capable talent? We can help!

For Queensland Government to be leaders in agile and innovative digital solutions for Queenslanders, we need a digitally skilled and ready workforce to meet our growing and evolving digital needs. Our digital career programs are a critical investment to grow our own talent with a pipeline of targeted vocational and tertiary education and purposeful development support.

Queensland Government’s Digital Careers Programs, coordinated by the Data and Digital Government division of Department of Customer Services, Open Data and Small and Family Business (CDSB) support career pathways for digital trainees, cadets and graduates. For the 2025-26 intake the Digital Graduate Program, Digital Cadetship pilot and the First Nations Digital Careers Program (Traineeship) will attract new, diverse and regionally inclusive cohorts to ensure your agency has the right skills.

Collectively these programs have supported 729 trainees, cadets and graduates to start their digital careers in the public sector, undertake challenging projects and develop leadership skills. Impressively, 87% of graduates and % of trainees have continued their career with Queensland Government contributing to exciting roles in cyber security, data analytics, artificial intelligence, design and information technology.

Alice Magill, e-Health Queensland graduate supervisor describes the programs are an “amazing opportunity to build in a scalable pipeline of talent into your organisation.” She adds “being able to ensure we have a workforce that will meet what we need in the future and provides long-term career development, especially in this climate, is really rewarding [and a] dream come true.”

If you’re wondering whether to get involved, Brad Willie, a First Nations digital trainee supervisor, encourages agencies should “Do it! It is a rewarding experience…trainees bring enthusiasm, [and] it is a lot of fun to mentor and support [our new talent].”
