TechnologyOne allows me to create software solutions that are used by people in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
I started my journey at a high school in Brisbane. I did a class that was called IPT (Information Processing Technology) and found I really enjoyed it so decided to continue my studies a Queensland University of Technology studying a Bachelor of Information Technology.
During my study I did a co-op program allowing me to work full time in industry while getting credit for my studies. Once I graduated, I did a graduate program with TechnologyOne and have been working there since 2013.
Working as a software developer has given me the flexibility to make lifestyle choices that some people might only dream of. I now live on a hobby farm in Southeast Queensland with fruit and nut trees and animals including cows, sheep and guinea fowl.
About my role
A software developer is responsible for designing, building and maintaining software. To create software, a programming language is used. It is a written language used to communicate with computers.
Before a programmer writes code, they need to consider how their changes might affect the program. For larger changes a design is written. This can be done in conjunction with a Business Analyst.
Once a part of the code is changed, a programmer tests the code. This can be done through manually testing as well as writing tests in the code.
After finishing the code changes there is a quality assurance process, before any customers receive the new code. If issues are found, they come back to the developer to fix as bugs.
