I always knew I liked numbers because numbers are very black and white.  I am not the creative or imaginative type so understandable why I was attracted to Accounting.  I have followed the very traditional path starting with a Graduate role along side University studies then only my CPA.  During the years I have progressed through different Finance roles to where I am now.

I have never thought much about role changes and opportunities mostly come when I least expect it. I just focus on each role and working to the best of my ability and learning. 

However, very recently I started getting serious about career planning.  I now have a path with deliberate moves to get me to a certain point within 5 years.  It’s the question I have never known the answer to – ‘Where do you want to be in 5 years?’  And now in my 40’s I can finally answer that.

The Analyst role at Ventia assists and supports the entire Finance function for the Sector.  Tasks can be split into recurring tasks and adhoc tasks.  Recurring tasks cover items such as monthly reporting, forecasting, budgeting. Adhoc tasks change from day to day and bring diversity to the role.  Most of the tasks relate to either consolidating, analysing, challenging and co-ordinating activities for Infrastructure Services Finance.  To achieve this, the role works across all business process areas and across all levels of the of the Sector including closely with a team of Senior Finance Managers and an Analyst to assist in delivering maximum business value.

Adhoc tasks branch out and involve the Operations teams and provide another level of stakeholders.  

Stakeholder management, time management and problem solving are key traits required for the role.
